Barcelona

Ciao! I've had an amazing weekend relaxing at home in Florence, and finally had time to sift through all my photos from Barcelona! We spent two full days exploring the Catalan capital, and eating the most amazing food!! (Seafood is my weakness, and Barcelona has endless amounts!)

Day 1

Our first day, we woke up early and explored the downtown area of Barcelona. Stopping for lunch at a cute cafe, and visiting Casa Batllo, which is a beautiful and eclectic house built by Antoni Gaudi in the 1904.

After that, we headed to the other side of Barcelona to visit La Sagrada Familia, (also designed by Gaudi, as was much of Barcelona) The Basilica, which is still unfinished, has been in the process of being built since 1866.

My favorite part was the way all of the multicolored stained glass bathed the inside of the church in rainbows of color. It was truely beautiful!

After roaming the streets a bit more (and having my second strawberry/coconut popsicle of the day) we headed out to a restaurant Sarah found called Guell Tapas, which was just off the main street La Rambla. Oh. My. Lord. When I tell you I still dream of this seafood paella, I'm not joking. It might be the best dish I've ever eaten. And paired with two pitchers of sangria, I was in heaven!

Day 2

For most of our second day, we hiked up to Parc Guell (also designed by... you guessed it, Antoni Gaudi!) The 40 minute hike up VERY steep inclines and MANY staircases was well worth it, because the view was amazing and the pretty mosaic park was too good to miss!

One last favorite stop was our brunch that morning (so long since I've had a proper NYC-style brunch!!) at this amazing place called Brunch & Cake. Everything is crazy over-the-top (I'm taking pineapple-crown topped pancakes) but they don't sacrifice taste for show. Everything was so delicious!!

The next morning we packed up and headed out early to catch our flight!

Be sure to catch my next travel post in..... (drum roll please).....Rome!

Arrivederci,
