7 Wardrobe Essentials Worth Investing In
A great wardrobe starts with a solid foundation, and there are few pieces more classic or versatile than those below. Investing a little more money into quality core items not only looks more polished, but will save you money in the long run. Well-made garments won’t wear out nearly as fast, and they don’t have to break the bank. Look into some of the suggested brands below, or if you’re on a tight budget, look for these secondhand!
A Great Pair of Jeans
Nothing is more versatile or flattering than the perfect pair of jeans. Opt for a more fashion-forward relaxed or straight fit, and try to find styles with little or no elastane in them. While you may have needed it for skinny jeans, it makes the denim wear out faster. See a few great options below, including the cut i live in.
Silk Tank
These are the foundation of essentially every outfit I wear. They’re wearable in every season (paired with midi skirts in the summer and blazers in the fall) and they’re an item you want to invest in. In my opinion, spending the money for real silk is entirely worth it. There are amazing washable-silk options now, and silk is so much softer and more breathable than synthetics.
Menswear-Inspired Flats
Take a note from the Parisian girls fashionbook and keep a good menswear inspired loafer in your closet for everyday. They’re fantastic with a pair of jeans as much as a feminine dress.
Everyday Fine Jewelry
Costume jewelry can be trendy and exciting, but it’s worth investing in a core group of fine jewelry that you can wear everyday. However, ‘fine’ doesn’t mean it needs to break the bank! If you’re looking to invest, Aurate and Mejuri both have a beautiful collection of 14-18k gold pieces at great prices. If you’re not there yet, both also have options for gold-plated or vermeil jewelry.
Indestructible Tights
Most fashion sites will tell you to scrimp on tights since they’ll likely rip after a few wears, and if we’re talking about fashion tights (i.e. polka dots, glitter, patterns) then absolutely. However, for your standard black sheers, invest in these indestructible tights. They’re not cheap, but they will last you YEARS instead of 2 uses and are far more comfortable than the $10 version.
White Button Down
A basic building block of any wardrobe, I’m of the opinion you should actually have TWO of these: one classic cotton, and one silk. No matter where you’re going, these two will be the most-worn tops in your closet.
Trench Coat
Think past the preppy light-tan trench. This lightweight jacket is perfect for transitional weather and can come in darker camels, olive, black, etc and still be just as wearable as basic tan. Find a cut that’s right for you, and watch it quickly become your go-to.
